"Polar Bear Plunge"

It's that time of year again! Cold weather means it's time to jump into Lake Hartwell for a good cause!
Once again HSL will support the Northeast Georgia Council against Domestic Violence by participating in their annual Polar Bear Plunge. Members are encouraged to donate money in the name of our member-jumper, April Garner.
Then attend the event starting at 10:30 on Saturday March 4 at Hartwell Marina.
There will also be a "Chili Cookoff" taking place with tickets for sampling at $5.

Supporting Wellspring Living

HSL donated these backpacks to Wellspring Living facilities for rescued victims of human trafficking.

HSL Supports REACH

Picture
The Hartwell Service League presented the Hart County Education Foundation with a $500 donation last week to benefit the REACH Hart program. Pictured, from left to right, are Hartwell Service League Education Committee member Lynn Everett, Hart County Education Foundation Executive Director Bobbie Busha, and Hartwell Service League Education Committee Chair Renee Curry.

REACH, or Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen, is a mentoring and scholarship program, which begins in the 8th grade with the identification of academically promising students, most of whom will be first generation college or technical school graduates. The five annually selected REACH scholars in each class are paired with a volunteer community mentor and an academic coach, both of whom help guide the scholar throughout their middle and high school years. To provide support or learn more about the REACH Hart program, please email Hart County Education Foundation Director Bobbie Busha at bobbie.busha@hart.k12.ga.us.

Supporting our YMCA Summer Swimmers

HSL made a donation to the YMCA of Georgia's Piedmont Bell Family Branch to financially support needy children's participation in their summer swimming program.

"Thank you so much to the Hartwell Service League (represented by Beth Mewborn and Pat Harper) for the generous donation to our summer camp program. Their gift will give several children the opportunity to enjoy an entire summer of fun at the Bell Family YMCA. What a blessing to have community supporters who love the Y, and love the children in our community."  YMCA representative

Cheri Griggs Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to HSL’s own Cheri Griggs who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hart County Chamber of Commerce at their banquet for her years of service to Hart County!
As the founder of our Pre 4th Celebration, host to many foreign exchange students, and other services too many to list, Cheri is a well-deserving choice, and Hartwell Service League is very proud of her! And her family was there to surprise her!
Check out these videos of Cheri receiving her award.

Our Own Cookbook

Picture

In March of 2020 as the Covid Pandemic began, HSL member Dixie Northrup had the idea of creating an original HSL cookbook that would include the entire community and raise funds for our projects as all other HSL fundraisers were being cancelled for the year. With the help of the entire club membership and others in the community, the cookbook was prepared, published, and put on sale in October 2020. It was a community success and generated a great deal of funds for our projects!

Cookbooks are still available for purchase.
They make ideal gifts and are a bargain at just $20 each!

Ask any HSL member for a copy or contact us to reserve your cookbook
 (see Contact page).

    Watch our club's commercial below!

HSL members are a talented, and daring, group of women. Working together, members were able to write, direct, and act in our very own unique commercial to promote cookbook sales for "Together We Can Cook." Students from the Audio-Visual department of Hart County Charter High School spent the day filming the commercial. Additionally, the students edited the footage to produce this entertaining video. Several members also appeared on a locally produced TV show to promote the cookbook.
