The Environment Committee educates members about the importance of preserving our natural resources and stimulate citizen action to address these concerns as well as performing service projects to benefit the environment and the community.
Environment Committee
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, members of the Environment Committee planted 50 bulbs at Railroad Street Park. Look for these bulbs to add some beauty to the park in the Spring!
Great Backyard Bird Count
Members of HSL and the Environment Committee took part in the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Members of HSL worked with Garden club members and the Hart County Botanical Garden to participate in the Count.

Our Local Dog Park
Happy to help maintain our local dog park, the Environment Committee recently led a cleanup day at the park and held a Dog Park Expo to bring more community awareness to the park.
Environment Committee Cleans Up!
Our Environment Committee led efforts to cleanup up a roadside near Wendy's and Long Point Park on two recent days. Their work helps keep our community clean and beautiful!
Library Rose Garden Care
he Environment Committee of HSL held a “clean up day” at the Hart County Library on February 15, 2022. The rose beds were weeded, sprayed, mulched, and the plants pruned. This is an ongoing project as the roses were originally planted and maintained by the Environment Committee. Throughout the year, the roses are watered, weeded and fertilized as needed. This year for the first time a general cleanup of the library grounds was done: trees pruned, trash picked up, and the grounds were sprayed for weed control. Afterwards members had lunch at a local restaurant allowing time for members to interact outside a club meeting and providing a boost to the local economy.
Our Tote Bags
The Environment Committee, with some help from Arts and Cuture, created these stylish and useful tote bags for each member. The repurposed feed bags are great for holding groceries. The one pictured was used as a travel tote on a member's trip to the Virgin Islands. Now that's a fun recycling project!
New Recycling Bin
HSL added a new recycling bin at the YMCA for public use.
